MURIEL WILKINS: I am leadership coach Muriel Wilkins, and we’re back with an all-new season of Coaching Real Leaders. Many people want and need to sharpen their leadership skills, and turn to executive coaching when they have nowhere else to go. On this show, we peel back the curtain on these coaching sessions to share the leadership lessons that my guest clients gain – and how they can apply to you, too. This season, our coaching conversations will dive deep into questions like, how do I keep my team and myself motivated after layoffs, especially when resources are tight?
SPEAKER 2: I want to make sure my team is good. I want to make sure the clients and customers are good. Going through a situation like this, I carry my own personal feelings and my personal challenges, but also a strong responsibility for the community. I’m also acknowledging that there’s so much that is out of my control.
MURIEL WILKINS: How do I rebound when it feels like I’ve hit a wall in my career?
SPEAKER 3: So, slowly my team began to be reduced. My scope was sort of divvied up, and then at the start of this year, they took the rest of my team away and then I was converted back to, like, an individual contributor. And that was the point where I felt like the last straw for me had kind of broke.
MURIEL WILKINS: And how do I make sure my team and I are moving fast enough to reach our goals?
SPEAKER 4: There are lots of things that I already wish we had accomplished, but I know that it takes time and I know that it’s okay to invest the time. I mean, if that’s okay, that’s a good use of time to try to work toward accomplishing these strategic directions. But I am just a little impatient and I wish in many cases that we are already there.
