Which Facts Reveal A “Green Lifestyle” Will Improve Your Health?

We want to inspire change through better living and empower women and individuals to live the change. It’s our intention to demonstrate that living a green lifestyle is merely an extension of healthy living. Living a green lifestyle begins with your personal health and home environment. It’s our intention to bust the myths that going green and organic is expensive, hard to do, and requires you to give up your personal sense of style or make huge sacrifices. That’s B.S., folks! And there’s no need to strive for perfection. If you go for perfect, you’re setting yourself up for failure.

Therefore, we empower our readers to make fun, small, marginal shifts in their everyday lives, all of which contribute to big changes over time. And that’s the intention of our courses: to get you to make reasonable changes in your everyday life that will ultimately improve your health environment and lifestyle. Once you start to clean up your personal space, cleaning up the planet becomes a natural byproduct.

It’s expensive to get sick in the United States (or anywhere)

Let’s face it: We don’t know anyone who can afford to pay their doctor bills out of pocket, much less afford outrageously expensive treatments for serious or terminal illnesses. That’s why we need to take our healthcare into our own hands, become our own health advocates and move into the world of preventive medicine as quickly as possible.

Most diseases are preventable, including heart disease, cancer, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and dozens more. And most chronic diseases start decades before they fully present themselves, so it’s vital to start actively living a life of prevention today, which is where green living comes in.

Our Western medical system is based on treating diseases instead of preventing them, so it’s up to you to take full responsibility for your family’s health and get into prevention now. Green living is one of the best ways to accomplish this. As you will learn, many of today’s serious illnesses are directly related to environmental pollutants and chemicals that are found in everyday food and consumer products. With a little bit of knowledge, you can successfully reduce your exposure to everyday toxic chemicals, detox your home and body and help prevent the onset of serious illness and disease. These simple steps could potentially save you thousands of dollars on potential medical bills.

Here are some important statistics to consider:

  • One in three people will get cancer in the Western world.
  • About 5% of all cancers are strongly hereditary, and most result from damaged genes that mutate over our lifetimes—from hormones in our food supply to tobacco smoke, sunlight and chemicals.
  • More than 60% of the population is overweight or obese, and experts agree this is deadly for heart health nationwide. The heavier you are, the higher your risk of heart disease.
  • One clinical trial, the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), concluded that the risk of type 2 diabetes can be reduced by up to 58% through major lifestyle changes like nutrition and exercise.

At this time, there’s one fact cancer experts agree on — Cancer cannot take hold of a healthy immune system.

Folks, it’s time for us to catch up with the rest of the world and make a wholehearted commitment to preventive medicine and green living. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) is promoting prevention over treatment post-disease. Why aren’t we?

This is exactly why we’re here, and it’s our mission to teach you how to safely eliminate as many environmental pollutants and chemicals from your daily routine, products, and home so you can live a healthful life, without spending thousands of dollars on prescription drugs and medical treatments. While we’re at it, we’ll also teach you how to reduce your energy consumption, and C02 output, while saving you money on your monthly bills.

What Does a Living a Green Lifestyle Encompass?

Whether you know it or not, a truly healthy and green lifestyle considers every product you purchase, including cleaning solutions, furniture, the paint on your walls, the carpet on your floors, plants, the pesticides sprayed on our lawns and gardens, and the flea bombs and chemicals used to kill ants, roaches and other bugs. It’s not just about diet and exercise. It’s also about the car you choose to drive and how you conserve energy.

Living a green lifestyle is about the foods you eat daily. Are you eating delicious, nutritionally rich organic foods that you love? Whole organic foods build, support and sustain a strong immune system that wards off serious and/or terminal illness (remember cancer cannot take hold of a healthy immune system). It’s not about eating dull, boring, bland-tasting foods that you dislike or can’t stand because they’re “healthy.” We’re talking about the same delicious organic foods fine chefs have been serving in their restaurants for years (which is a secret to why their foods taste so amazing).

Living a green lifestyle is also about the personal-care products you choose to bring into your home for you, your family, your pets and your children to use, consume and ingest. Your skin is your largest organ and ingests most of what you put on it. It’s like you’re eating it. Remember this next time you buy a personal care product and look at the ingredients. Do you really want to ingest all those chemicals?

Living a green lifestyle is about cleaning up your home, office and environment, of the chemicals, including antibacterial products, you use to keep your home and office “clean.”

The bottom line? Going green is about creating a fun, healthy lifestyle that simultaneously has a positive residual effect on your health and the environment!

Taking the First Steps

Let’s take a thorough look at everything you bring into your home—from food and personal-care products to housecleaning formulas, furniture, carpet, paint, and the like. At no other time in history have there been so many toxins and pollutants in our environment, particularly in the home. Modern conveniences have made our busy lives easier, but they have unintentionally brought unknown poisons into our homes. They’re in the products you lather on your bodies, spray into the air, clean your homes, the food you eat, the furniture you sit on (which is usually full of fire retardants, chemical sprays, and foam), the scented candles you light and the air you breathe (and we could go on from there!).

Start by identifying what we call “offending products” in and around your home. The tricky thing about this is that they may not seem so offensive at first glance. Offending products, by definition, contain chemicals that aren’t fit for human or environmental consumption. Examples include personal-care products, makeup, cleaning supplies, prepackaged foods, nail polish, scrubs, and exfoliants—in short, anything and everything you consume or use in and around your home.

Become a dedicated label reader. Start by picking up all the products you currently have in your home and the ones you’re considering buying and take 30 seconds to read the ingredient list. Ask yourself: Can we identify any of the ingredients? Do we know what they are? Can we even pronounce them? Do we know if they’ve been tested for human safety? Are there warning labels, with words like “caution” or “danger”—anything to alert you that the product may not be fit for human consumption?
